Kelly Cochran-Yzquierdo, Founder
Kelly Cochran-Yzquierdo is an award-winning screenwriter, the dynamic founder of From the Fringe Entertainment, and a sought-after story consultant, currently residing in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. With a deep-seated passion for crafting compelling narratives, Kelly brings a unique and often underrepresented perspective to her work, particularly focusing on LGBTQI+ experiences.
Her journey as a storyteller is underscored by a strong academic foundation, holding an MFA in Writing for Film and Television from the prestigious Emerson College. This rigorous training has honed her ability to develop nuanced characters and engaging plots that resonate with audiences.
Kelly's talent has garnered significant recognition within the industry. She proudly holds the title of New York Script Award winner for Best TV Pilot, a testament to her skill in creating captivating television concepts. Furthermore, her projects have consistently gained traction in prominent industry events, having been a three-time Second Rounder at the esteemed Austin Film Festival. Her dedication to her craft and the power of her stories were further acknowledged through her participation in the 2023 Stowe Story Labs and her selection as a 2024 Stowe Story Ireland Retreat Selected Project.
Through her production company, From the Fringe Entertainment, Kelly actively champions diverse voices and aims to bring stories from the margins to the forefront. Her commitment to inclusivity extends beyond her writing, shaping her approach as a story consultant where she helps other creatives refine their narratives with authenticity and impact.
Beyond her screenwriting endeavors, Kelly is deeply invested in nurturing the next generation of storytellers. She served seventeen years as an Associate Professor of English and Screenwriting at Northern Virginia Community College, where she shared her expertise and passion with aspiring writers.
Kelly's diverse portfolio of projects reflects her multifaceted storytelling interests. Her feature film, "Love Loss," and her limited series pilot, "Remember This," both currently undergoing rewrites, delve into complex human relationships and experiences. In contrast, she is also exploring the lighter side of storytelling with a Christmas Rom-Com feature in development. Notably, Kelly is also working on a deeply personal memoir that chronicles her challenging experiences as an LGBTQ+ individual at a Christian university, promising a powerful and insightful read.
Living in Oklahoma City with her wife of twenty-four years, Kelly's personal experiences profoundly influence her creative work. Her commitment to authentically portraying LGBTQI+ stories stems from her own lived realities and a desire to see greater representation on screen.
